A graduate of Connecticut College, she was introduced to art-making by collage artist Maureen McCabe and consequently became her life’s work. Between her education Simonelli assisted and studied with Abstract-Expressionist, Richard Pousette-Dart (one of The Irascibles). This informed her work as both abstract and spiritual practice. Through her graduate studies at Pratt Institute, Simonelli was introduced to the technique of encaustic and its great history in art while completing two Masters, first MFA in Painting and the second, MS, Art History and Design, TCHADA with a focus on Materials, Techniques, and Conservation. Simonelli continued her education as the protégé for artist Manuel Pardo who unified creative intellectual thought and inventive process by making up a separate artist technique for each of his series. Simonelli describes the time spent with and in apprentice to her mentor Manuel Pardo as the most influential period for her development as an artist.
Simonelli's paintings are held in private and corporate collections including the lobbies of Kirkland & Ellis at Citicorp, and David Rockwell both in New York, and InterContinental Hotel in Boston. She has given interviews and lectured on her artwork for WOMR From The Artists Perspective hosted by Ray Wiggs, Sirius Radio, Lime 114 - Be Happy Dammit hosted by Karen Salmansohn, Intelligentsia Journal, University of South Carolina, Art Institute in Boston, National Women's Gotham Chapter- Brandeis University, and the 92nd Street Y "Artist in the Studio" series in New York City.
